Saturday's radioactive offerings.

I have been sorely remiss this week in my gym attendance, an unusual state for someone like me who generally likes going to the gym*. But remiss or not yesterday was kickboxing and there was no way in hell I was missing that. So I took myself to the barn, ran 5k as a warm up, and...nothing actually, I was banjaxed after getting off the 'mill. Stupid fitness levels not magically sustaining themselves while I sit at my desk and eat mini snickers* for days on end.
Some days I think Non Memnoch gets a kick out of torture, perhaps it is an instructor thing. Certainly he can sniff when you're low on energy and punish you accordingly.
He had us sparring in three minute rounds yesterday, adding points for good strikes or good combinations, deducting points for dropping hands or leaving a hand out, anything in fact he deemed a false punch.
Three minutes can seem awfully long when you're going at it hell for leather.
Then to make sure he finished us off good and proper he made us sprint, round house, sprint, double round house, sprint, and so on until we were at ten. My legs were like jelly after.
This morning finds me ouchy, but at least I'm not skiing, like Finn, who has lost her will to live as well as the skin from her elbows.
Today I will take CG's dog for a hike. He will chase squirrels and get soaked, I will poodle along behind him, waiting to see if he ever feels tired* and hoping I don't run into a radioactive paedophile.
Oh yes, there is a radioactive paedophile loose in the country. Thomas Leopold absconded a few days before his child porn trail in the UK and police believe he hotfooted it here. Why do child touchers always think Ireland is a good place to hide out? Who knows, but he's thought to be here and like I say, radioactive from a bout of cancer treatment. I immediately thought 'watch out fall out boy' but I am sad that way.
Now breakfast I think, bacon and eggs sounds about right. I mean I've put on a kilo this week alone, I might as well. Who knew eating mini snickers, drinking all the beer you like and not going to the gym would make a body gain weight? Oh right, I did. Pfft.

*I keep telling myself that.
*I don't know what this is about, I don't really like chocolate.
* As far as I know he doesn't get tired, not really. His tail might dip slightly.

Perhaps he's thinking of becoming a catholic priest?

I'm slowly coming out of my winter low-exercise phase. Sunrise is earlier and earlier, which means I'll soon be getting up with the sun and working out on weekday mornings. As of now though, I'm still only doing weekends or the occasional weekday evening when SPOUSE isn't around.

Last weekend I had plenty of energy and stayed on the elliptical well over an hour both days. Today, I was awake at 4am and up at 6 for NO GOOD BLOODY REASON, but feeling strangely energetic, despite 4 hours of sleep. About to hit the exercise room for as long as I can stand it. WE're going to a wine tasting this afternoon, so I'll likely fall face forward into a vat of rioja. A girl can dream.

Bring on

Bring on what, you may ask?

Bring on the breakfast, I guess. I can't remember.

I fell right off the fitness wagon late last year. I'm not happy about it but there again I haven't done a blessed thing to change it.

Sounds like you and Andraste have nice days planned. Have fun , ladies!

I really did it up this week with a whole 20 MINUTES OF YOGA. Nothing more strenuous than a couple downward dogs, a warrior pose, and a squat. But, sadly, that qualifies as a half-marathon's worth of exertion these days. How on earth I'm supposed to get through the next 11.5 weeks moving no faster than a slow amble and lying around in bed, I have no idea.
I'm counting on y'all to pick up my slack. That's how it works, right?

Have a fine wine tasting! Nom. I hope you get lucky and hit up some French reds.
Sam, fear not you'll get jiggy with it once again, but when you're feeling better.
Grims, you're just going to have to take it nice and easy for the next few weeks, yoga is excellent for pregnant ladies. And you'll have plenty of running around on your hands soon enough.

I can report CG's dog does not get tired but is mildy afraid of large goofy German Shepherds who just want to play.

I felt bloated from all the beer last week and then the two bags of soft pretzels I ate after picking them up at the airport. My tummy hurt but nom nom.

Heh, yep, sometimes you've got to roll with the bad stuff. Just back in from going to Doubt, awesome film, Streep was robbed!* No spolers, but the showdown scene between her and Hoffman made my skin tingle.

* I say this of course without having seen The Reader.

Creativity on the cards for ACE UnConference

SMEs are set to benefit when Silicon Valley comes to Derry/Londonderry for the (ACE) Awakening Creative Entrepreneurship UnConference, from 25 to 27 March, which has been funded through the Arts Council’s, Creative Industries Innovation Fund. The delegate-driven UnConference will see senior figures from the world’s leading IT and communications companies visit the country to highlight trends and possibilities through sharing their own vantage points and insights. Participating companies include Palm, Adobe, Powerscourt, Deutsche Bank, Nokia, Archos, Microsoft and DemonWare amongst others. They will encourage local entrepreneurs to instil re-invention and creativity into their businesses and practices by enabling them to access global expertise within an open innovation environment.

From the newly refurbished Playhouse to Verbal Arts Centre, Millennium Forum, North West Regional College and Nerve Centre, the key industry event will take place in some of the most exciting creative centres of excellence in the historic city of Derry/Londonderry. It provides an opportunity to showcase the talent of local creative industries through peer-to-peer expertise sharing, learning summits, creative start-up platforms, networking, hands-on creativity innovation boot camps, and demonstration labs, all underpinned with world class panels setting topics for discussion. An estimated 2,000 people are expected to participate in the three day UnConference including primary venue attendees, and online audiences through a satellite centre, real-time simulcast in Second Life and a web conference portal.

Tim Kelley, Senior Business Consultant at NORIBIC, the managing agent of ACE UnConference, highlights why businesses in Northern Ireland are set to benefit. He comments:
“ACE UnConference will skill up our indigenous SMEs, get them to think differently, introduce them to new tools, techniques and basically new ways of working. Business opportunities will not only be developed at the venues, but also across a wider group of remote and international audiences who will participate through streams or view on-demand recordings.”

Arts Council of Northern Ireland Chief Executive, Roisín McDonough, explains why the event will be a major boost for the creative industries in Northern Ireland:
“The Arts Council is pleased to allocate one of the first round Creative Industries Innovation Fund awards to NORIBIC and looks forward to the new and innovative developments its ACE UnConference will bring to the creative sector. Providing this type of support to artists and creative business people so they can develop and sustain a flourishing creative industries sector is a key theme in the Arts Council of Northern Ireland’s five-year plan.”

The ACE UnConference takes place from 25 to 27 March. Day one will feature big name speakers who will set the scene for the UnConference. Day two is participant driven with the agenda decided at the event and day three will skill up people in the local industry, with workshops ranging from podcasting to web design and much more.

Visit www.aceconference.eventbrite.com to book your free tickets for ACE UnConference. It is essential to book early to avoid disappointment as demand is expected to be high and places for workshops and seminars are limited. For further information contact Tim Kelley on 028 7126 4242 or email ace@noribic.com.

I mean "Saturday's radioactive offerings." is a little plain.
