Husband tries to sell wife.

I read the following article this morning and immediately my thoughts turned to Medbh, which is not as strange as it sounds. Seriously, had I not a phone phobia I would have run her up to share this with her.
Dear Paul Osborn, if you suspect your wife is cheating on you, either deal with it or leave her. Offering her up for 'sale' is complete and utter bollocks. Not saying a cheating wife is classy either, but she's not property to be bought and sold. Hard as it might be to get your head around, there it is. repeat, not property.

From classy paper, The Sun.

"A JEALOUS husband who suspected his wife of an affair took revenge – by putting her for sale on eBay.

Paul Osborn, 44, kicked out wife Sharon and advertised her on the internet auction site – with bids hitting £500,100.

It offered his “cheating, lying, adulterous slag of a wife” to the highest bidder – and became an internet phenomenon, with users forwarding the link worldwide. But Sharon, 43, denies an affair and cops are now investigating Paul for harassment.

MoT inspector Paul heard rumours in March that Network Rail manager Sharon, his wife of 24 years, was having an affair with a man at work.

Paul said: “In a fit of rage I put the advert on eBay. I later took it off because I realised it wasn’t the right thing to do. I was just so angry.”

Sharon and her colleague made a police complaint against Paul. Neither was available for comment last night. But the unnamed man’s wife said at home in Hemel Hempstead, Herts: “There’s nothing going on. They work in the same office, that’s all.”

Thames Valley Police confirmed it was investigating, saying: “Statements have been taken from two people. ”

See? Even revenge can be sexist.

Plus, he did all that on the basis of "rumours"? He wasn't even sure she did have an affair?

What a tool.

I like the way he put up the ad, left it up for maximum humiliation, THEN realised it was wrong.

do you actually think he thought he would be able to sell her?

putting someone for sale on ebay isn't sexist, it's just stupid.

I think she should put up a "you're dumped" ad. I hope she has chucked him and made a public bonfire of all his stuff. What a total asshole.

Stupid AND sexist, Morgor.
I wonder is she the mother of his children?

I obviously am having a bad humour day, because it actually made me giggle. It's just so stupid. What an idiot of a man. I just hope the woman was as creative in whatever way she dumped him.

I don't think you can extrapolate him thinking he had ownership of her from his placing an ad.
I read it simply as him wanting to embarrass and humiliate his wife. People do that to each other every day without any sexist agenda.
Not pretty, not clever but not sexist either.

meh, we'll have to agree to disagree. I think making your wife a chattel, even if it is for revenge or out of dingbatness is pretty sexist. However, it's a sunny day-again and I find I don't have it in me to get worked up over the stupidity of people today. Every morning I've gotten up this week I've peeped out waiting for the clouds and every morning the sun has waved cheerily at me. Seriously, a few more days of this and I'll be positively giddy.

It's against the law to sell people for money.
Law enforcement officials call it human trafficking and it's not a joke.

This douchebag is yet another example of a man imbued with an inflated sense of male privilege who thought he could SELL his wife, or at the very least humiliate her because she was acting outside his control.
Gee, I wonder why she might want to cheat on the self-absorbed fucker, not that it has been proven.
Divorce that motherfucker already.

you're all kinda coming across as man-hating feminists to me here.

If a woman had put it up about a fella in the same situation you'd probably think it was funny.

It's against the law to sell people for money.
Really? I'd never have guessed.

If something like this happened in a country with weak rights for women I'd be agreeing with you here, but as it's in the U.K I think you're just being pissy about nothing.

Does anyone know of the last time a woman in the U.K was openly/legally sold by her husband?

Man hatin' feminists? Is that like a group? Do we get badges? How will I know if I am one? Will I have to stop wearing heels and liking the Paramour? Or beer?
The guy acted like a arsehole and whether you like it or not, offering her for sale is a pretty sexist thing to do, AS WELL as being shitty. Nothing man hating about my reaction to one man's actions-although it's interesting that you'd use the man-hating feminist line because I don't approve of his actions.
If a woman put her husband's details up on the web offering to sell him I wouldn't laugh either, nor if she cut up all his suits or set fire to his car. I think she was a lunatic. Does that make me a lady hatin' Nice Guy?

Don't he tho? If my wife was cheating on me I'd either leave her or sort it out, that's it. I sure as shit wouldn't be getting questioned by the police over some stupid prank.

I agree it is sexist. If you did that to a guy he probably wouldn’t give a shit and would most likely be hailed as a hero but lads know that kinda of thing would hurt a lady and that, I think anyway, is the surest sign of sexism. Knowing that you can use something to undermine the opposite sex.

One thing that I do understand though is the hurt that the guy must have felt, 24 years of marriage, all that love and time betrayed, a huge portion of you life wasted. Surly that would prompt even the kindest heart to take outlandish measures. Nonetheless, if it was me and I had conclusive evidence my other half was having an affair I would just walk away. No fighting, no burning his clothes, no wrecking his car, no telling him he was shit in bed, no selling him on the internet. Nothing. I would just part company, build a wall and get over it.

Obviously that guy was so shocked by what had happened he did something mental but that is still his fault, you never know what your partner will do, you don't own them. I hate the "he completes me" contingency or "she is my rock". You have to make your own happiness and have you own life. Were people more like that then maybe they wouldn’t have such mental reactions.

Incidentally, did anyone see the tramp Andrea Von Stumm who was quoted as saying “a women is nothing without a man”. Well then since she has basically giving two fingers to everything I have ever worked for anyone fancy joining me whilst I hunt her down and kill her?

if you like, you could have a willy being stood on by a high heel.

although it's interesting that you'd use the man-hating feminist line because I don't approve of his actions.
why? lots of women attacking a guy over something they see as sexist which isn't. (we'll just have to agree to disagree on that).

If a woman put her husband's details up on the web offering to sell him I wouldn't laugh either, nor if she cut up all his suits or set fire to his car. I think she was a lunatic. Does that make me a lady hatin' Nice Guy? no it makes you normal. . . ish.

What are you talking about Mr. Morgor dude? . I do not hate men nor am I a feminist, Miss Medbh will come over here and rip your head off if she thinks you are equating me to feminism. I am an egalitarian. I am cool and you know it.

i don't think you are a man-hating feminist nonny or FMC. Perhaps man-hating feminist is a bit extreme, maybe girl-power activists is closer. hmm that sounds quite patronising, but anyway is it fair to say that a post saying "you go girl, dump that mans ass" wouldn't be out of place on this post?

egalitarianism is all good.

anyway I think PI had the best post of all.

Nonny, it's feminists who are the real egalitarians.

Morgor, FMC and her readers don't fall into the camp of " you go, girl" and "men suck."
Are you new here?

If you think that human trafficking does not occur in the UK then you are sadly uninformed.
Women and children are bought and sold in every nation.

I never said that, human trafficking between comparitively wealthy native english people on e-bay in the UK doesn't happen.

Morgor,

Among other things being sexist means behaving in ways that promote stereotyping of social roles based on gender, most definitely including the domination of women by men.

What Mr Clever did may be stupid, it may be a joke, it may be hateful, vengeful, or patronising - but there's no avoiding, however you cut it, that it is sexist.

And I do hope I'm not coming across as a man-hating feminist. 'Coz I kinda like my penis.
