Motivation for Fatcats and possibly for chumlies of Fatcats!

I've been sick most of this weeks so the training- apart from some 400m splits earlier in the week ( running an average 1:44 per burst)- I've done bugger all. I did manage to put in a nice solid 5 miler this morning which considering the state of me was most impressive.*
However Aisling, lovely person, and bona fide member of Satdee's group has returned from running a marathon Rotterdam. And get this, she ran a sub three hour marathon. Her timing chip recorded 2 hours 59 mins and 58 seconds! That is very very bloody fast indeed. I am in awe. Awe I tell you.
And also I want to mention Lou who ran a whopper of a Marathon in cold cold Paris the other weekend. Whopping ass at 4 :40. Very nice, I'll be chasing that one come October.
Congratulations also to Finn for qualifying for World in August. She can fly, and she'll surely rock it.
John Mc's up next with a d-day of May 4th. With the amount of training he has put in I'm sure he's going to be brilliant. I can't wait to read all about it.
I've got to go have a shower now and head out, but can I just say I heart this little Saturday post. We are out there doing good work, training and getting faster, stronger and better and trying our damn hardest to stay fit and keep body and mind together. Be it hauling our arses out of bed early to work out, or braving the cold/heat, or going to the gym and pool on the days we least can be bothered, we still do it. I love reading the comments on this post most. I love the personal triumphs, like Grims extending her distances and doing it with style. It's nice to have a group to bounce off. It's nicer still to have nice group off.
Well done folks.

I assure you, there is no style in what I'm doing. I'm sure every passersby is just two seconds away from asking if I'm all right, and would like a ride home.

I made another attempt at intervals on Tuesday (why is it so hard??!?!), but nothing since then as I'm at a conference in Iowa. Seriously, who goes to Iowa? I may even take my long-run Sunday off and just get back at it next week. I still have six weeks to the big day, and I've done the 10k distance once, so I don't feel too awful about getting put off schedule and letting my right shin recuperate a little longer.

Congratulations, congratulations, congratulations to you marathoners! I am so impressed and inspired and impressed all over again! Thanks to all of you (and FMC especially) for coming round and giving the beginners like myself something to aspire to! If I ever do a marathon, it'll be because of y'all. Hell, I'm doing a 10k because of y'all.

Gotta get back to the conference. Have a lovely weekend!

Amazing guys! Well done Aisling! That is an amazing time. To run a marathon that fast is a testament to your hard work adn spirit, gal. That's brilliant.

It's a triumph of the spirit to run any marathon, I'm in awe of those of you who've done it. Well done Lou, and Finn too - I don't know what qualifying for World means but it sounds like a huge achievement - fantastic.

You guys are brilliant. I poke my head in, report the few times a week I've broken sweat and sit and marvel at the rest of you. Grims (well done on besting your times!) is right - this is an inspiring group and to bob around on the edges of you is a pleasure and a privilege. It's brilliant to read about all your successes. Keep on going, folks, you rock!

Thanks, cat - this Saturday tradition is a great idea.

Huzzah to all, you marathoners and other folks in crazy shape! I agree that this little check in each Saturday does help with the motivation. I'll wake up some Tuesday, and think "oh, maybe I need another hour of sleep, maybe I don't need to work out today..." And then I'll think, "you lazy shit, others are training and running in marathons and you can't get your fat arse out of bed to do some stretches and hit the elliptical for a little while? For shame!"

And then I get up.

Another good week. Same as usual. Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday - up early, on the elliptical and then combinations of various ab stuff, leg stuff, weights, squats, lunges, etc.

Today, a good 40 minutes on the machine, then more leg, ab, and yoga stretches. Didn't do much arm stuff because it's gorgeous outside and I will be doing a good 3 hours worth of lawn care, including raking leaves and cutting back last year's detritus. So my arms will be plenty sore from that, I reckon!

Same tomorrow, I hope. Some interval training on the machine, and whatever else strikes my fancy.

Damn Andraste, you must have buns of steel at this stage. How goes the wedding/vintage dress plans?

Blogger Andraste said...

Oh, they're of steel all right, under a dimpled layer of cottage cheese fat!

Haven't tried on the dress since I got it, I'm afraid. The wedding is in late June, so I'll try it in mid-May, and take it to a dressmaker for whatever adjustments it needs in length, etc. I think someone in this dress's life took up a couple of inches in the midsection, making the waist line right under the boobs, and I think this can be corrected, making for a nice, blouse-like bit in the middle. We'll see what the experts have to say...

i couldn't agree more with what everyone's said so far. it's been incredible motivation reading what others are up to, especially when they've completed a race. this saturday post is the whole reason i signed up for my first triathlon!

unfortunately this hasn't been the greatest week - woke up monday with the worst allergies of my life, and spent the next three days in bed delirious due to medication. thursday was my big talk, but yesterday i hauled myself to the pool.... 100 yd warm up, 150 yd swim, and 100 yd cool down. i could feel that my form was off, but i kept at it. do any of the swimmers out there know of any good resources with regards to training drills in the pool?

otherwise, this is the big cleaning weekend. all the house mates have left till tomorrow evening, so it's the perfect time to get all of the spring cleaning done. i'm sure that will be plenty of workout.

Jesus folks yee are all shit hot at raising the bar kicking it over, not only Miss Cat, all of you. You have tremendous dedication. Take that you lazy fuckers, who sit in front of the TV night after night moaning about the lack of fulfilment in your lives. You people rock!! I go running 3 times a week and probably go the gym about 3 times but that’s it until the weather improves and the Surf is up at any rate. But, that’s not bad for someone like me people. There is a tubber in here just dying to get out. Does dancing on the piano in the Viperooms count as exercise?

Now the real reason I am here, Miss cat, (yes you) had I not have found shoes to wear I would not have gone out last night, nor would my house look like the devil himself shit down my chimney, one squelches as opposed to walks across the living room floor NOR would my friend Jen be half asleep in the bath impatiently awaiting the arrival of the Dub Doc. Had I not have bought shoes I would have been at the show I am now 30 mins late for. All roads lead to you darling, so if you could make your way over here and start on the kitchen I would appreciate it.

Last week I exercised like a possessed Zola Bud. I had masses of energy and needed to expend it. This week, not so much. All I've done i did in 45 minutes at the gym today. 30 minutes on eliptical which I punished myself with after such an idle week. Then 15 screaming minutes on the machines, then down to collect the sprogs from their fit-kids class and off for a lovely big lunch.

We went roller skating on wednesday - when they have a family special at the rink - and my shins are covered in bruises from two little tumblers' feet slipping from under them. I wasn't even skating, just holding them up and, bloomin 'eck, if I hadn't wrecked my back before lifting things badly, I did on Wednesday. It was fun but on Thursday I felt like an old woman. Tonight we have a deal to go to and I was going to wear a skirt but I look like my legs have been punchbags for some dwarfish boxers.

Daisy Mae, when exactly is your triathlon?
I'll make a note of it and we can cyber cheer you when the even come round. That's a nice week too, the fact that you can even recognise 'form' bad or otherwise in swimming is amazing to me. Do you have to work hard on controlling your breathing?

Nonny, that sounds to me like you had a cracking good night indeed. I told you Berties were tops.

hah Sam, I can't roller blade for toffee or ice skate come to think of it. But if you were holding lifting and balancing said children I'd say you got more than a FULL body workout.

Oh right. I pass this a long in the spirit of friendship. If you can possibly avoid it, DON'T go to see Pathology if it stinks up your local cinema and you've nothing better to do than dry wall snot for two hours. Seriously, don't do it. Even if some one holds a gun to your head and insists you go see it, don't do it. Take the bullet, I would have gladly shot myself but for my stupid lack of either a gun OR bullets.
Pathology, don't do it.

Cheers FMC for the mention! And thanks to you guys for the congrats! I've loved this Satdee club. I love that we all have the same struggle to get off the sofa/ out of bed, but love every minute once we do. I love that people feel it's given them motivation to run a 10k or do a triathlon!
In the spirit of resting up I swam once this week but did an adventure race yesterday; an all girly team of us friends, canoeing, mountain biking and running round the mountains with a map! Great fun!

thank you for the kind words! i'm supposed to race on july 20th.... 600 yd swim, 3 mi run, and 7 mi bike ride. it's all off-road, so i'm particularly excited. plus, the whole thing is geared towards novices, which means we'll all be struggling at the transition areas. just found out that i may be required to wear a wet suit, though, because the water is generally too cold. makes me shudder just thinking about it now!

Hah Aisling, I love your version of a quiet week. I'd be on the couch eating my own body weight in Jelly babies if that was me.

Eeek Daisy Mae, that's going to make the transition that bit harder. I put your date in the calender. You'll be awesome.

This post always makes me feel like the laziest girl in the world, however I have managed to get myself wet regularly three times a week all year....which is three times more a week than this time last year.

Bad week though, I am coming to the conclusion that every six weeks I really enjoy a week of not (and yes, I am also very lazy). Only hit the pool once this week, partly due to work things, guests and laziness, but also because have started to develop very sore chest after swimming. Option One. go see quack and get him to tell me what is wrong with me.
Option Two. Ignore pool for a week and hopefully it shall go away. Naturally I went with option two. Back to pool this evening to test theory.

T’was very good indeed, think poor Jen’s drink got drugged though, the doctor arrived and my poor little pal ended up in hospital until 3.30 this morning. It was only when we start calculating how much she would have drank that we realised she didn’t have much at all. Scary stuff altogether. Gillie here was her chauffer, when my little niece arrived this morning she was disgusted at the state of the place I didn’t get a chance to clean, it took 3 hours of cleaning and 2 chapters of Anne of Green Gables to calm her three year old little self. Still though the shoes were great!!!

It's the shoes that count Nonny.

LK, is is just your chest muscles? Or do you mean your breathing?

Bit of both, been a bit breathy (put that down to a coffee too close to swim) and have been feeling like you feel when you're on the third day of a major cough and your wind pipe starts to ache from coughing so much.

Thanks for the shout out FMC. Less than 2 weeks to go. Mildly apprehensive.
Just got back from 5 days in Mexico. Did 2 fabulous days of surfing, up at the crack, and into warm water, with plentiful waves and few people. Ran on the beach the other days - that is HARD, way harder than on the road, after 3 miles I was knackered. It was hard to keep my heart rate below my top threshold.
Swam in the Ocean when not surfing. That is also difficult, waves, vision etc. Timing the incoming waves when getting back onto the beach was pretty sketchy. I was rolled and held down twice one day, lost my googles in the process and decided that was it for my swims!

BTW. said it over at Aishling's place, but its worth saying again - well done, sub 3 hrs is a spectacular time.

You were rolled? Very frightening. I think you were wise to call it a day after that.
