Football, Irish style.

I went to a bar with some chumlies and the Paramour to watch Dublin v Kerry yesterday. Being the sort of gal who can explain offside and who likes to yell abuse at referees on television and wonder aloud if Jens is going the way of Seaman, it should be clear that soccer is more my game than Gaelige football. However it was a bar, it was sunday afternoon and there was beer so I went along.
It would be safe to say I wasn't expecting much.
But slap my thigh and call my lady patch babs, what a game! So fast, so brutal, so skilled, what speed, what guts, what bravery and balls! I loved it! I know at one point I slapped the arm off Chumley sitting to my right yelling, 'DID YOU SEE THAT!? THAT"S SOME KICK!" And it was.
Oh it was splendid, real end to end stuff with a nerve wracking few minutes from the end when I really did think Dublin might just claw their way back level. It was really very thrilling indeed.
So much so that I'm going to go and watch the all Ireland final between Kerry and Cork in that very same bar, although I may have to go alone. The paramour says he's still slightly deaf.
Eeeeee, discovering new things to enjoy is terrific. I'm very much for that.
Gaelige football, super stuff all together.
Now, who do we think will win between Cork and Kerry?

How do you not love it? All 22 of us where on the hill (hill 16 is Dublin only), Sporting our Dublin jerseys, smoking and drinking ahhh it was a riot. There was singing and dancing and the slagging of country folk was rife. Roaring abuse at the ref is also a winner and that’s before the game even began. Although Dublin played well the better team won. Nail biting moments where plentiful though, the roars of “come on you boys in blue” got louder at many points when we where sure the Sam was getting closer to returning to it’s rightful home but alas it was not to be. Ah sure there’s always next year, Brogan learning to kick straight may also be a thought to bare in mind. I’d say the lads where pretty sore last night even off the ball the kicked the shit out of each other. I was delighted when O’Se got sent off. Them Kerry boys are sly filths. And I’m not a sore loser watch them in the final and you’ll see.

The paramour said the best thing Croke Park did was leave the HIll 16 in terraces.
It was awesome Nonny, I freely admit to not knowing much about it before yesterday, but I was blown away by it. I'd say the atmosphere at the park itself was legend. THe final should be something to watch all right.

Do you not like the GF Conan? I've watched a few rugby matches over at the Paramour's father's house, but while I thought they were okay, I never had the same reaction to them as I did to yesterday's match.
Now, it could be that the match ysterday was just a belter and that other matches are not as thrilling, but I swear to god, I was on the edge of my seat for the last twenty minutes of it.

Rugby is ok I guess, it along with soccer should have never have been allowed in Croker, it’s a travesty, just goes to show how far brown envelopes get you in this country. FMC go to the match, not sure what it be like when Dublin aren’t playing but the hill is only 20 dollars and seating is about 35, you’ll love it. Get pissed before hand and then smuggle a few cans in (give them to young children to carry in they never suspect them). Head back to the aul dub and sure it’ll be only marvellous!

Prefer hurling to the GF, and rugby to the other football games. But a good match in good company is hard to beat, whatever the code. US open tennis starts today, btw.

ye, it was a great game. And as was already said, a good match, in good company, of any code, is hard to beat.
Personally I wouldn't be caught dead on the hill when dublin are playing, too many knackers.

Kerry are certs to beat cork in the final.
Although I also thought Waterford were certs to beat Limerick in hurling semi, so what do I know

Here look Peadar you don't know me or any of my amigos buenos so don’t start deeming us knackers, seriously though there are some strange characters to be found on the Hill but you take the good with the bad and the atmosphere is amazing. I know I am bias but I’m neither a knacker or a snob so the Hill is for me!

We're going to lay down some odds in it. Two of the chumlies are backing Cork and I'm going to sick a tenner on Kerry-after watching yesterdays slog out- but then again I've never seen Cork play and they could be terrific.

Like you say Nonny, I don't know you, so obviously I'm not referring to you.

I love GAA, but also other sports.
I was at the France v Ireland rugby match in croker. It was great and I don't see what the harm was.

I don't think Cork are anywhere near as good as Kerry, your tenner should be safe

I hope so, I liked that tenner.
Medbh, it is my preferred description.

It’s seems soccer and rugger bugger players play for the money, the GAA lads play for the nothing more than the love of the game and pride of representing their County. These defining factors are clearly evident when you look at the ferocious passion and skill the lads play with, Croke Park should have stayed a true representation of this. It’s terrible, particularly when you look to their Soccer girl counterparts. The GAA may be rolling in it, but the players aren’t, give the lads something for themselves.
I’m off for a dip in the 40ft. It seems I will be a true blue Dub again this evening!

I likes the GAA. I likes the big ball but prefers the small. But while the long distance spitting beats both hands, I mean, gollies down, I still prefers the racing. And that's what I wases watching during the match yesterday.

Long as you're happy Sneezy doing what you do, it's all gravy. Although I"d say there were a few boxing fans over the weekend who aren't exactly feeling chipper.

Ah FMC, never bet against my lovely Cork! We hate bloody Kerry hereabouts and are out for blood and guts. Cork have always been too clean for Kerry, who are rottenly dirty, especially off the ball. Our boys practised a bit of dirty against Meath, and are ready to let Kerry have it. I know two of the Cork team pretty well - Anthony Lynch and Noel O'Leary. Noel is fairly new (and rough!!!!), but it's a crime that Anthony hasn't won an All-Ireland medal yet (always the bridesmaid and all that...). He is a fantastic player (All Star a few times now) and a genuinely nice fella, so for him alone, I hope we win. (Also, there'll be NO sticking the Kerry neighbours if they win!!)

Dublin the FCKN BSTRDS Have now cost me 100 in the last 2 years I am resigning in protest!!!!The thing that's really wrong is the fact I have to give the Kerryman another $25 I placed a bet ($50)last year on A Dublin win over Kerry happy in the asumption that they would beat Mayo in the Semi final anyway you know what they say about assumptions

Hmm Unfortunately I'm going to have trouble finding someone even from the rebel county to take a $100 against Kerry ......I guess I'll just have to keep praying for the Dubs to FINALLY get their act together.....

Great game of football. And as much as I dislike the Dubs that Kerry are arrogant, so for once I supported the Dubs.
